This little newborn was only nine days old when I came by for his newborn session at his home in Somerville, MA.  I used to live in Davis Square so I love coming back to the area.  He is absolutely adorable and so squishy.  Since I’m an on-location photographer, I love to incorporate the home into the session.  We primarily used the foyer and the living at this home.  This is the second baby for mom and dad, and the oldest wasn’t too interested in being photographed.  I won him over by coloring with him and playing a high five game.  Despite that it is always challenging trying to get a 2 year old into the family photos when there is this new baby in the house.  That said, I’m so happy with the family photo below.  We all worked so hard for that photograph.  Two minutes before he was grumpy and unhappy and then I remember a trick from a workshop I had just watched and it worked.  Actually, it worked so well the older brother wanted me to stop being a photographer and just play with him!

During this session, I was working on some parent posing.  I just love the first photo below but the funniest moment happened while I was photographing mom with the newborn baby.  All of a sudden I saw a stream of pee in the air and land on dad and brother sitting in the chair next to us.  Pee and poop are two hazards of being a newborn photographer but usually I’m the one getting peed on, not the clients.  No one noticed at first but this family was such a good sport about this “accident.”

During the session, we incorporated a handmade blanket into the session, which is something I love to do.  So much time, effort and love goes into these hand-crafted items and I think it so special getting a photo with the newborn on it.
