Fall seems to be the busy season for photographers because of the gorgeous foliage but I really love summer sessions. There isn’t the hustle of the school year and everyone is a bit more relaxed. The weather is warm and comfortable. But really, for me, the people make the session.
I met this family a year ago when I photographed the daughter’s first birthday party. Mom is into photography and it is nice chat about that with her. At their session we had so much fun just playing around. Peek-a-boo and patty cake were the clear favorites. The grandparents were in town so we snuck in a few portraits with them too. We definitely got the “grandma shot” but you really see the joy in the daughter’s face when she is interacting with mom and dad.
The family did a wonderful job of pulling together coordinating outfits for all five family members. If you look at the extended family portrait, the color palette consists of blue, grey and green. The outfits are simple and timeless, and the stripes on the daughter allow her to stand out. Since the toddler is the focus of the session, it is natural for our eye to be drawn to her first. In addition, I love the mom’s long, green skirt. The length allows her the ability to move around without having to worry about her clothes.
