This was such a fun idea for a photo session and I really enjoyed getting to know this family over the course of weekend. Mom contacted me about 6 weeks before the Boston Marathon saying she was interested in a family session incorporating the city and the race and another session on race day after she finished running. This was Amanda’s 10th marathon and after the bombings last year the family decided to still come and watch her race. We met up on Saturday before the marathon for a family session and then I came into the city on Monday for the race. Each family member had a shirt made for them. Amanda’s nickname is “humps” so the back of the shirts said “nana humps,” “dada humps,, “Addie humps,” and etc.
I was a little apprehensive when I left my kids and headed into the city via public transportation but once I was downtown you could just feel the excitement and energy of the runners and spectators. I spent some time people watching while I waited for her family to arrive. Since Amanda has run so many marathons her husband has a race day plan on where he plans to watch. Unfortunately, they had trouble catching the “T” in Newton. I felt horrible when Amanda made it to the meeting point and I was the only one there. I quickly explained her family was on the way and handed her my phone. Within a few seconds her husband showed up and you could see the relief on her face. It turned out that after waiting forever for the T the family just hopped in the car and Amanda’s father-in-law dropped off her husband and he ran to meet her.

I love the joy on her face after finishing the marathon! Great images!
These made me tear up a little bit. A day filled with such emotion — doubly so for the finisher here. Congrats!
