I first met this family back in October for a 6 month photo session. They had just moved to the Boston area and found me off of a referral listing on a local mom’s group. They ended up contacting me for 6 month baby photos along with a one year old session. In fall we met up for some family photos at Walden Pond in Concord, MA and can be viewed in a blog post here. The family was really sweet and I was excited when the one year old’s mom scheduled the one year old session at the end of January. I photographed the family at their home in Belmont, MA. First we started off with some family photos. This one year baby was bursting with energy and personality. Once babies start walking they control the session so we just let him play and walk around. The parents really wanted a photo of the now toddler in a “made in Winston-Salem” shirt and we spend a good deal of time trying to get that photo. As you know, toddler are always on the move.

At the end of the session, we attempted a cake smash. While setting up I mentioned that some babies are that into these sessions and wouldn’t you know this baby wanted nothing to do with the cake. We tried our best to get him interested in treat. For anyone interested in a birthday cake, the mom told me that Shaw’s will give you a free small cake for your one year old’s birthday.

This session was bittersweet for me as the family just told me they will be moving away for 6 months and living in Australia. I’m really excited for them.
