Last week, I spent some time with this sweet family documenting their 2 week old newborn Reid at their home in Somerville, MA. I always love going back to this city because it is where I first lived when we moved back to the Boston area. In addition to some family photographs we took some individual photos of the baby on his mom’s baby blanket – the alphabet blanket below.   I love incorporating heirloom items into sessions.

The family lives in a beautifully restored school house.  It had these huge windows, which let in some beautiful light.  The first photo below is where mom typically spends her day with Reid.  I noticed during the session how she gently strokes his head and was thrilled that we were able to capture such a tender moment.  Dad, when holding the baby, lays him across his right arm so we incorporated that position into a few of the photos.  When possible I try to include these personal elements into a family’s photography session.

At Reid’s newborn session, I tried taking some video and later on was able to put together something special for the family.  The video of their session can be found here.
