I think because family photography is one focus of my business people always assume I have a lot of photographs of my kids. Even when I do take the photos, I never get a chance to edit them. Last year, I participated in a project called “Letters to my Son” which helped me come up with a project each month. The deadline helped me set aside time every month to take photos, edit them, and write about Ezra. Looking back, I’m very grateful that I did that project. My group disbanded so now I’m searching for a new avenue to make sure I’m documenting these milestones, especially with Sadie. She is child number 2 so I don’t want her to look back and say where are my photos?

Recently she started walking and neither Marc or I had captured this special moment. Weekends can be a blur with activities, my work and Marc’s hobbies. So even though Marc was running out of the house one day we took 10 minutes to take these photos. I have a hard time taking photos of Sadie at this age because she crawls as quickly as she can to the camera so I barely have any time to setup, which is why I need a second person to help. This milestone is so special and we didn’t want to miss it. I love how new toddlers throw their hands up in the air to balance and grin when they fall on their butts.

What I love about this series the most is Marc’s face. Even though these weren’t Sadie’s first steps, Marc is still so excited to see her figure out this milestone. As for Sadie, I love all of the looks on her face – determination, focus, joy and accomplishment!
