It is so hard for me to believe that one year has gone by.  Last year at this time I was in the hospital cuddling with my newborn baby girl.  We decided to wait this time to find out the sex and were so surprised  she was a girl.  Boys are so prevalent in my family that it was a welcome surprise.  Yesterday I spent some time looking back at photos of Sadie and realized that I haven’t done a great job of documenting her first year of life.  I tried to make a point of setting up a mini-shoot once a month but I have way more photos of my oldest, Ezra.

So, instead of lamenting, I dressed Sadie, grabbed Marc and woke Ezra up from his nap.  We raced to my favorite spot in Belmont for photos and then realized that it was covered in snow and wouldn’t be useful for documenting her new skill – walking.  So, we put the car back in drive and headed to another spot I love and ran to spot where the light was nice.  The time change just occurred so the sun was setting around 6:45pm, which didn’t leave up a whole lot of time since it was quarter after six.  It was pretty cold outside so I wanted to take a few photos and then wrap Sadie back up in her coat.  Ezra insisted in running either in front of my camera or on my lap making the impromptu session a little more difficult than usual.

I feel like a bad photographer parent because I didn’t plan the perfect outfit with the perfect location but really it doesn’t matter. It was so spontaneous and I only wanted to capture one photo of her adorable face and infectious smile on the day before her birthday. Instead I ended up with about 50! All this little girl does is smile.  It reminds me so much of Ezra when he was this age.  Although I am so excited for this milestone it feels like I have blinked and the year passed me by.  It is probably silly, but I’ve cried twice already this morning.

Maybe later this week I’ll try a few more photos but here are a few of the birthday girl!
